“Big” Pixel Art Grid Technique

ms-paint to build a big pixel grid from scratch

In a post yesterday, we discussed the Zoom and Pencil tools which are great for making pixel art. But what if you want to make large scale art with big “pixels” in the style that Minecraft and other games have made popular?

This video shows how you can start with the simple square tool in Paint, copy one square to make two, then two squares to make four, build out a row and then copy the whole row down to build your own grid system.

Be sure to use a color for the grid squares that you don’t intend to use in your big pixel art, so you can turn the grid white as a final step and make it vanish.

Don’t forget to save a separate copy of your big grid BEFORE you start filling in colors so that you can re-use it later without having to build it every time!
